About German Village

The architecture alone is reason enough to visit German Village in Columbus, Ohio. Magnificently restored old homes in the Victorian style with multiple stories, gabled roofs, and tall spires make you feel as if you've stepped into the 19th century. Every year, in late June, you can visit some of the most elegantly restored homes in the area, as well as their stunning gardens, by taking the Haus und Garten Tour. German Village is located directly south of downtown Columbus, Ohio, and is the home of Schiller Park where free Shakespeare plays are offered during the summer months. It is one of those neighborhoods where you can walk down the street and everyone says hello, where neighborliness is the norm. It stands to reason that visiting a place called German Village wouldn't be complete without tasting some great German fare at one of the many fine dining establishments. Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant is a must during any visit to Columbus. It has always been one of the most famous German restaurants in the Columbus area and is even more so after having been featured on the Travel Channel's, "Man vs. Food." Another great place to dine in German Village, also featured on "Man vs. Food," is The Thurman Caf
