Arena District
About Arena District
The Arena District in Columbus Ohio is one of the Midwestern city's most vibrant areas. Centered around the beautiful Nationwide Arena, home to the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, the Arena District features a whole host of interesting dining and night life options. Nationwide Arena and the surrounding Arena District was built on the former site of the Ohio Penitentiary, and as such, is a fine example of urban redevelopment. In 2009, the new Huntington Park opened, which is the home of the Cleveland Indians' AAA affiliate, the Columbus Clippers. Huntington Park features excellent sight lines and host of restaurant options, including City BBQ, Bob Evans and Donatos. Its location across from Nationwide Arena makes it the latest jewel of Columbus Ohio's Arena District. In addition to sporting events, the Arena District is known for a whole host of restaurants and other night life options. Closest the Nationwide Arena are the Italian restaurant, Buca Di Beppo, and the Irish-styled pub, O'Shaughnessys. Both places are very busy on the night of Blue Jackets games or other Nationwide Arena events. Gordon Biersch with its micobrewery and the American-styled Cotters Restaurant are two other popular Arena District eateries. As far as bars and nightlife are concerned, the Arena District does not disappoint. Both the Frog Bear and Wild Boar Bar and R-Bar are very popular with Blue Jacket fans. The Arena District of Columbus Ohio is a great place to check out when visiting this growing Midwestern metropolis.
